Sports Medicine

Yearlong Course            (Grades 10-12)          Credit (CTE/Science)

Sports Medicine course is a full-year course designed for students who are interested in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, nurse, fitness, physiology of exercise, kinesiology, nutrition, EMT, and other sports medicine related fields.  It is offered as a classroom and lab course to provide students with an avenue through which to explore these fields of study. This course focuses on the information and skills important in the recognition of care, prevention, and preliminary rehabilitation of athletic injuries.  The course includes class work and hands on application.  Students will learn current athletic taping and treatment of acute and chronic injuries.  Students will be able to learn basic x-ray analysis for various types of fractures.  Students can earn college credit in Medical Terminology with a grade of B+ or better.  In addition, students can earn a certification in CPR / 1st Aid, as well as a certification in Blood Borne Pathogens.  All students are requested to complete at least 2 hours of sports medicine activities outside of the classroom.
